All is One Totem

£650.00

Acrylic on plywood

48 × 23 9/10 in

122 × 60.8 cm

In many indigenous beliefs, the totem is viewed as a sacred object and emblem of a group. Fascinated by an animistic approach, respectful to all living beings, Ola Intu paints the totem as a symbol of connection between herself, humanity, and the natural world. Carefully choosing the representation of species and visually exploring their symbolic
energies - mammals, reptiles, birds, insects, water beings, and humans. The artist plays with form and color to portray the inevitable bond between all of the characters. Everything in the natural world is connected and depends on one another - that message, especially important in times where humans abuse nature; becomes the main
intention behind the painting. Like most of Intu's paintings, this piece is created from recycled material - plywood found on the street.
