Cocoon

£400.00

Acrylic on plywood

22 3/5 × 15 7/10 in

57.5 × 40 cm

Varnished; unframed

Cocoon is a part of the "Isolation blues" series created by Ola Intu on upcycled plywood. Inspired by the global pandemic and a national lockdown, the artist explores the theme of isolation, and how it appears in the natural world.
A form of the cocoon becomes a wintery comfort zone and a place where one can hide from the rest of the world. Insects are forming cocoons in order to survive, but also to transform into a different, stronger form. The painting shows us the indissoluble bond between humans and nature, where a need to hide and isolate in order to transform is the same for all living beings.
