Endangered Species

£550.00

Acrylic on plywood

49.5 x 89.5 cm

The painting explores the difficult human relationship with nature in modern times. Using symbolism and vivid colors, the artist portrays a naked individual surrounded by plants and living forms. The main character, dressed only in a invisible, linear space suit seems disattached from their surroundings. A space suit symbolizes all social constructs created by ourselves, that disconnected us from nature. Linearity of the space suit suggests that most of these constructs are illusionary, and humans are in fact an inevitable part of the natural world. Our illusionary separation from nature, where we placed ourselves above it, brought us to the point, where in the face of climate change we might also soon become an endangered species.

Like most of Intu's works, Endangered species was painted on a recycled plywood panel found on one of London's streets.
