In Between was inspired by the tragic events taking place since september 2021 in eastern Poland . The group of refugees from a few middle-eastern and African countries got stranded in the forest on the Polish - Belarussian border, neglected by the authorities of both countries and also by the EU. Untill this day many refugees, including children and elderly remain in the grey zone of cold Polish forest, with no access to food and medication, being subjects to violent pushbacks from as well Polish as Belarussian authorities. The only help they get are from few NGO’s and locals, although the access is very limited - the part of the border has been declared a military zone, and helping refugees became illegal. Since the begining of the crisis around 217 refugees from the zone have been declared missing or dead.

Using a symbolic language, the painting depicts unimaginable systemic cruelty against the people fleeing war, conflict and crisis and violating basic human rights.

80% of the sales profit of this painting shall be donated to Fundacja Ocalenie - the Polish NGO actively helping refugees stranded at the border.
